Autumn Day at Cheongsan Arboretum
South Korea is truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. There’s so many different types of landscape here, and they fully go through each season to the extreme. Summers are incredibly hot, but lush with beautiful foliage, roses, and hydrangeas. Winters are extremely cold but offer snowy holidays. Spring is famous for the cherry blossoms that bloom everywhere, and Fall not only has beautiful Autumn leaves, but also boasts fields of pink muhly grass, red and purple Kochia, bright orange cosmos, and pampas grass. It’s pretty common to find Arboretum’s here in Korea, which are basically outdoor botanical gardens that have trees and plants for every season. I stumbled upon an Instagram post promoting an “Autumn Fest” with beautiful pampas grass over on the West Coast so we decided to check it out.
The Cheongsan Arboretum is about a two hour drive from Pyeongtaek, but is pretty close to the coast. To make it even more worth the drive, I’d recommend making a full day out of it. Head to the Arboretum in the morning for a few hours, and then head to the nearby beach towns to grab lunch and explore the coast during the afternoon.
While at the Arboretum you’ll find over 200 types of flowers & plants, and over 600 types of trees. They typically announce on social media what’s in bloom so you can plan ahead. But the garden offers plenty of beautiful photos ops, two cafes, a small petting zoo, a rose garden maze, and more. We easily spent 2-3 hours walking around and taking photos.
