Top 18 Things to Do in Korea This Spring

Top 18 Things to Do in Korea This Spring

Spring is one of the most popular times to visit South Korea, and also my personal favorite season here. The warmer temperatures, blossoming flowers, and lush greenery make this a great time to spend hours outdoors exploring. South Korea is also one of the best places in the world to visit for cherry blossoms, which typically bloom at the end of March or early April. In addition to the flowers, Spring is a great time to enjoy Seoul Fashion Week, celebrate Buddha’s birthday at a beautifully decorated temple, and more. Below are some of the top 18 things to do in Korea in Spring:

See the Cherry Blossoms at Seokchon Lake in Jamsil. If you only have time for one cherry blossom spot in Spring, I highly recommend making it this one. The lake sits in front of the iconic Lotte Tower and is completely circled by cherry blossoms, giving a beautiful tunnel effect as you walk around.

Go on a Spring Time Hike. Along with Fall, springtime is one of the best seasons to enjoy hiking in Korea, as Summer and Winter have such extreme temperatures. Depending on when you go, you’ll also be able to see plenty of springtime flowers like azaleas and cherry blossoms.

Spend a Day in Seoul Forest. Another great cherry blossom spot in Seoul is Seoul Forest. Make sure to hit the bridge here for a beautiful photo background of flowers. You’ll also see tulips and plenty of other flowers in bloom. After exploring the forest, check out the nearby cafes in Seongsu right outside the gates.

Spend a Day at Alpaca World. Spend a wholesome afternoon playing with alpacas at this pretty farm. Spring is the perfect time to spend an afternoon here before it gets too hot.

Go Glamping. Camping is huge in Korea, and the cool spring evenings make this one of the best times to go enjoy a campfire and the great outdoors.

Visit a Daffodil Forest. Although it’s a bit secluded, the daffodil forest in Seosan is well worth the drive. There is a small entrance fee and then you’re free to roam the hills covered in bright yellow daffodils. Typically the daffodils bloom in early to mid April.

See King Cherry Blossoms at Piora Cafe. About 30 minutes away from the daffodil forest, this is the perfect spot to grab an afternoon coffee and slice of cake. The cafe features both regular cherry blossoms as well as king cherry blossoms, but unfortunately they don’t bloom at the same time (king cherry blossoms typically come after regular cherry blossoms).

Visit a Daisy Cafe in Incheon. Another flower you can catch blooming in Korea are daisys. They typically bloom in May and you can find a few cafes that capitalize on them. Two great spots for fields of daisys are Mahogany Cafe & Dore Dore Cafe in Incheon.

Attend Seoul Fashion Week. Every Spring (& Fall) consists of Seoul Fashion Week taking place at DDP. Even if you don’t have an invitation to watch a show, there are plenty of free exhibits taking place that are open to the public and it’s a great chance to check out some creative outfits.

Grab Drinks at a Rooftop Bar. Celebrate the warmer temperatures at a vibey rooftop bar or cafe.

Go on a Boat Cruise in Busan or Seoul. Enjoy a breezy sunny afternoon out on the water enjoying the views of the Han River or Gwangali Beach in Busan. Another popular option is a sunset cruise, but make sure to bring a jacket for when the sun goes down.

Get Dressed up for Afternoon Tea. Spring is the perfect time to pull out girly sundresses and enjoy afternoon tea at one of the many upscale hotels in Seoul that offer it.

See King Cherry Blossoms at Gakwonsa Temple. Nestled in a hillside in Cheonan, this temple is one of my favorite cherry blossom spots to visit outside of Seoul. You can find cherry blossoms, king cherry blossoms, and lanterns all in one spot. I’ve noticed that the blossoms here tend to come a bit later than the surrounding areas, but typically they do get regular and king blossoms at the same time.

See the Lantern Displays for Buddha’s Birthday. Buddha’s birthday is celebrated in May, but typically at most temples in Korea you can see beautiful lantern displays as early as March.

Go Cafe Hopping in Suwon. Suwon Fortress is one of my favorite spots to go cafe hopping, the area is extremely walkable with tons of aesthetic spots for a different experience every time. Springtime is also great because you can see plenty of cherry blossoms, king cherry blossoms, lilac, and roses blooming as you explore.

For Suwon cafe recommendations, check out my post on 7 Aesthetic Cafes to Visit at Suwon Fortress.

Enjoy Ramen on the Han River. One of the most popular activities on a trip to Seoul is enjoying sunset at the Han River with a picnic of ramen, you can actually find hot water stations at Hangang park in Yeouido specifically for ramen. Spring is the best time to enjoy this tradition before it gets too hot outside.

See Cherry Blossoms at Kyunghee University. Another great spot for both regular cherry blossoms as well as King cherry blossoms is this stunning university in Suwon. We were able to drive onto the campus and park in a large parking lot near the outdoor theater, we just payed a small parking fee upon leaving the campus.

See the Roses Bloom. May is the start of rose season in South Korea, and you can find them growing literally everywhere. There are tons of parks in Seoul and Suwon that have “rose festivals” with rose tunnels and arches, but you can also find them draped over fences and walls in a lot of other areas.
