The Ultimate Weekend Guide to Zion National Park

The Ultimate Weekend Guide to Zion National Park

Zion National Park is one of the most famous National Parks in the US, and for good reason. It’s incredibly beautiful in all seasons and has something to offer everyone. Majority of the hikes within the park are currently only accessible by riding the shuttle bus, which you’ll need to reserve in advance. However, if you miss out on tickets, you can park at the bottom of the canyon and walk along the road the shuttle would take. Additionally you can drive the road that connects the East and South entrances that is quite beautiful on its own and offers a few hikes, including Canyon Overlook Trail.

-Angel’s Landing. Probably the most famous of the hikes in Zion, this is not for those with a fear of heights. It’s a steep and narrow hike all the way to the top, but promises amazing views. I’m pretty scared of heights…so this isn’t on my list of hikes I’m eager to try.

-The Narrows. Another famous hike that is ideal in Summer, you can hike up the river into narrow slot canyons. If you decide to try this hike out during early spring or winter, you’ll need to rent some special gear in town that will keep you warm and dry.

-Canyon Overlook Trail. For those with a fear of heights, this is a manageable hike right outside of the tunnel (near the South entrance). This hike is much easier than Angel’s Landing, and still provides an amazing view of the canyon. Parking can be a challenge though since it’s located on the main road, so you may need to drive through a few times to find a place.

-Observation Point. Thought to be the hike with the best view in the park, this is a long 8-mile hike that is pretty much uphill the entire time. It’s not as frighting as Angel’s Landing, and all provides and amazing view of the full canyon (including Angel’s Landing).

WHERE TO EAT

-Grab lunch or dinner at Whiptail Grill in Springdale (right outside of the South entrance). This is a small organic Mexican restaurant, and they honestly have some of the best tacos I’ve ever had. My husband was dying to go there again the next day before we left for Bryce but they unfortunately weren’t open yet. 10/10 recommend.

-Grab breakfast & coffee from FeelLove Coffee (also right outside of the South entrance). I had an iced vanilla latte and a vegan breakfast burrito and it was sooo good. I’m not vegan, but I do try to limit animal products when possible, and you honestly couldn’t tell it was a vegan burrito. Definitely recommend.

WHERE TO STAY

-Zion Wildflower Resort. We stayed here on our most recent trip, and it was such a cute glamping spot. The resort features tiny bungalows with luxurious king size beds and private bathrooms, spacious covered wagons, and luxurious tents (tents are not available during winter). You also receive a s’mores kit upon check-in to use at one of their nightly bonfires.

-Zion Glamping Adventures. This resort features luxury tents with heaters, and I believe it’s one of the few resorts to continue renting out tents during the winter.

-East Zion Resort. Located a bit outside of the East entrance to Zion, this glamping spot features luxury tents, yurts, and tree houses.

-Under Canvas Zion. Probably the most famous of the glamping companies, Under Canvas is known for making your trip a truly luxurious stay.

-La Quinta Zion. If glamping isn’t your thing, you’ll want to check out the La Quinta right outside of the South entrance. This is honestly the most luxurious La Quinta I’ve ever seen. We stayed here on our first trip to Zion and the hotel was amazing, with a prime location to all of the restaurants in Springdale, and less than 5 minutes from the Park entrance.
